The guidance below explains how to record a video using Panopto. For more detailed guidance, consult the How to Record a Video Support Page via Panopto Documentation.
How to Capture Video / Audio
Navigate to Panopto - http://media.oca.ac.uk/ - and select the 'Create' button located in the top-left. We recommend selecting the 'Panopto Capture' option which uses your web browser to capture video / audio as a straightforward alternative to recording software.
The following guidance is only applicable to selecting the 'Panopto Capture' option. However, if you would like to use the Panopto recording software, you can select the 'Panopto for Windows' option from the 'Create' dropdown to download and record from the application. Despite the option referencing 'Windows' you can select the application for Mac OS from the download options.
If you choose to use the Panopto recording software, you can find applicable guidance via Panopto documentation:

How to use the Panopto Capture Interface
After selecting 'Panopto Capture' you will need to accept permission to use your camera and microphone in most web browsers. Once this access is confirmed, you will see the interface demonstrated in the screenshot below.
There are three options located at the top with green backgrounds: 'Audio', 'Video' and 'Screen and Apps'. These options can be used to select, add and remove the inputs as described below:
-
Audio - Used to record sound and allows you to select, add or remove an audio input, such as a microphone.
-
Video - Used to record your video feed and allows you to select, add or remove a video input, such as a webcam.
- Screen and Apps - Used to record your screen and allows you to select, add or remove an interface, such as your desktop, a browser or an application.
The three options above can be combined in different ways to create media that meets the needs of your project, for example:
- Record audio only, for uses such as an instrument recording or voice narration.
- Record your web browser interface and audio, for uses such as narrating a Google Slides presentation.
- Record your workflow in an application interface, for uses such as showing your image editing process.
Prior to starting your recording, you can also use the 'Settings' (cog icon) located in the bottom right to fine tune additional settings, such as the quality or stream output.
Stream Output
Within the 'Settings' (cog icon) touched on in the section above, you will find the 'Stream output' option, as shown in the screenshot below.
We recommend the 'Capture streams separately' option as this allows viewers to switch between the different video, screen and apps inputs. However, if you would like viewers to only see the content as one stream, you can choose the 'Combine all streams into one' option. This will combine all inputs into a single output preventing viewers from switching between them.
Recording Your Video
Once happy with your inputs and settings, you can being recording by selecting the red button in bottom center of the screen. You can stop the recording and the video will automatically be uploaded and made available via the 'My Folder' page via the Panopto homepage -
When your video is complete, you can stop the recording whereby it’ll automatically be uploaded and available via the ‘My Folder’ option on the Panopto homepage - http://media.oca.ac.uk/ - as shown in the screenshot below.
You can then edit the video as needed. Consult the How can I edit media? article for more information.
