Minor edits can be made to both video and audio that has been recorded or uploaded to Panopto including:
- Editing / Cutting
- Adding Video or Audio Input
- Deleting Video or Audio Input
- Adding Presentation Slides
- Adding Chapters
- Normalising Audio.
To begin making edits, first locate your video via the 'My Folder' option located in the left-hand menu of the Panopto homepage - media.oca.ac.uk - and hover your cursor over the video to select the 'Edit' option. See the screenshot below.
Editing / Cutting
1. After accessing the editor interface, use the playback and timeline tools to locate the point where you'd like to 'cut' a section of the video. You can then select it by clicking the timeline and dragging your cursor to create a greyed out section.
2. Clicking and dragging either side of the cut will adjust the width of the section as needed. You can repeat this as many times as required to cut out sections of your video.
Note that selecting and deselecting the 'Preview cuts during playback' option will allow you to watch the video with and without your edits.
3. With a cut, or multiple cuts, you can select the ‘Cuts’ option located in the upper-left corner where you’ll find a list of existing cuts. You can further edit and fine tune them by selecting the vertical three-dot icon ('kebab' menu) alongside the appropriate cut.
4. Finish by selecting the ‘Apply’ option located in the upper-right.
For a step-by-step guide, consult the How to Trim a Video in the Editor Support Page via Panopto Documentation.
Adding Video or Audio Input
1. After accessing the editor interface, select the 'Streams' option located in the upper-left, followed by 'Add Stream'. You'll be prompted to upload a video and / or audio file.
2. Once uploaded, you can then adjust the stream(s), for example, by amending the video and / or audio start and end points. Select the 'Streams' option and make changes by selecting the vertical three-dot icon ('kebab' menu).
3. Finish by selecting the ‘Apply’ option located in the upper-right.
Please note that unlike videos recorded using Panopto, existing files that contain both video and audio cannot be edited separately.
For further information, consult the How to Edit and Add Streams in the Editor Support Page via Panopto Documentation.
Deleting Video or Audio Input
Please note that deleting an input can't be undone.
After accessing the editor interface, select the 'Streams' option located in the upper-left, followed by the vertical three-dot icon ('kebab' menu) and select 'Delete'. Finish by selecting the ‘Apply’ option located in the upper-right.
For further information, consult the How to Delete Streams in the Editor Support Page via Panopto Documentation.
Adding Presentation Slides
Please note that your presentation must be in PowerPoint (.pptx) format.
1. After accessing the editor interface, select the 'Slides' option located in the upper-left, followed by 'Add a presentation'. You'll be prompted to upload your presentation.
2. Once uploaded, you can change or create a slide start point by selecting 'Slides' and the vertical three-dot icon ('kebab' menu) available next to each slide, followed by 'Edit'. In the pop-up window, you can then set a start point for each slide using the following format [HH:MM:SS:MS].
A slide will continue to be available throughout the remaining duration of the video until the starting point of another slide begins.
3. Finish by selecting the ‘Apply’ option located in the upper-right.
Adding Chapters
Adding chapters to a video and / or audio recording helps viewers to navigate to a specific section of the video, similar to how you would use headings to separate text in a document.
After accessing the editor interface, select the 'Contents' option located in the upper-left where you can enter a chapter title and start point. You can create an unlimited number of chapters to suit your content. Once you are happy with your chapter tiles and start points, finish by selecting the ‘Apply’ option located in the upper-right.
See the How to Use Smart Chapters Support Page via Panopto Documentation.
Normalising Audio
Normalising the audio of a video may help to reduce audio issues such as microphone or audio peaking.
After accessing the editor interface, select the 'Normalise the audio' option located in the centre of the page. The audio will be automatically normalised resulting in a consistent volume throughout your video.
For additional editing guides, consult the 'Edit' section via Panopto Documentation.
