To retain a copy of your learning log(s) after completing a course unit and / or a degree, you will need to migrate your content to an external hosting provider, such as WordPress (wordpress.com). For more information on using WordPress, see the Get Started Introductory Guides available on the WordPress site.
By completing the export and import process outlined below, you're essentially creating a copy or duplicate of your learning log. Once duplicated, the two versions aren't connected, so any changes made on one version won't be reflected on the other.
Export
The export process will provide you with a copy of your existing learning log from OCA Spaces.
1. Access the WordPress Dashboard by hovering your cursor over your site title located on the menu bar at the top, followed by 'Dashboard', as shown in the screenshot below.
2. Hover your cursor over 'Tools' in the left-hand menu and select 'Export'.
3. On the following page, ensure that the 'All Content' option is selected, followed by the blue 'Download Export File' option, as shown in the screenshot below. This will prompt the download of an .XML file.
You should now have the .XML file saved to your device ready to follow the import process below.
Import
You will now take the .XML file you have downloaded and upload it to another blogging site to complete the migration. Please note it is recommended to use WordPress (wordpress.com) as in the step-by-step guide below.
1. You will need to ensure that you have created a new site before you can begin to import your content. If you intend to use WordPress, see the Set Up your Blog in Five Steps Support Page for more information.
2. Upon creating your new external site, access the WordPress Dashboard and select 'Tools', followed by 'Import' where you'll be prompted to upload the .XML file.
3. After selecting and uploading the .XML file, it may take several minutes / hours to complete the migration depending on the amount of content you are transferring from your learning log.
It is important to note that in some cases the content will successfully transfer, but you may find images are missing from your posts. You should still find your images have transferred to the 'Media Library' of your new site that is available from the WordPress Dashboard, but you will need to reinsert them into your posts.
You will need to repeat both the export and import process for each learning log you wish to migrate.
